They showed up to their session at the National Gallery of Art with hot drinks in hand, wrapped in cozy winter layers, already laughing. In fact, you could tell within the first five minutes—these two weren’t trying to impress anyone. They were just genuinely into each other.

The light at the National Gallery of Art in winter is unreal. Between the white marble, wide-open architecture, and soft glow bouncing off the stone, we didn’t need to work hard to make it feel cinematic. As a result, it was already doing the heavy lifting.
Plus, the crowds are low in the winter months. As a Virginia wedding photo & video team, that’s something we love. No tourists accidentally wandering into a frame. No distractions.
Also, the sculpture garden nearby added a completely different vibe to the shoot. The contrast of nature and structure gave us more to play with and helped break things up visually.

We know it might seem odd hiring a Richmond engagement photographer for a shoot in D.C. But honestly, couples book us for what we bring, not just where we’re based. After that, we grabbed a few photos by the Capitol for a little variety. Then we wrapped with them slow dancing on a quiet sidewalk while people passed by in big coats and scarves.
